The weather and the scores both heated up for the first day of the 2010 Peter O'Malley Junior Masters at the Bathurst Golf Club.
A new course record 5 under par 67 in round 1 was set in the girls division by NSW Junior State Team member Cathleen Santoso from the Lakes. However, this was not enough to hold off the home town girl Chantal Hodson who backed up here first round 1 under with a two under 70 to take the Peter O'Malley Junior Masters for 2010.
In the boys division Andrew Best from The Australian Golf Club shot an impressive one under 70 to hold a one shot advantage over a group of three players including NSW Junior State Team member Andrius Belkus after round 1. Andrew held on for the victory to be crowned the 2010 Peter O'Malley Junior Masters champion.
The impressive scoring continued in all age groups and divisions with Bella Woodley from the Cabramatta golf club shooting an amazing 49 points in the second round. This score was enough to leap frog half the field to claim second place overall.
Isaiah Wolferstan of the Charlestown Golf Club continued his good form of last year taking out the boys 13 and under division while Shelly Shin from the Muirfield Golf Club continues to be the name on everyone's lips with an impressive win in the girls 14 and under division. Shelly is definately one to watch out for in coming years.
Other good perfomances includes Matthew Temple in the boys 14 years who claimed a one shot victory while Mason Derwin from Richmond won the boys stableford division in his first ever event.
In the boys 17 years local hope Michael Stanford went back to back by claiming the boys 17 years and over to go with his boys 16 years and over from last year. While in the 15 years Dale Williamson from the Muirfield Golf Club put his names on the winners list once again with victory in the boys 15 years. In the boys 16 years Mitchell McLean from Tuross Head claimed his first Masters title in the boys 16 years.
A big thank you to both the Bathurst Golf Club and Peter O'Malley who took time out of his busy schedule to entertain the players with a clinic on Saturday afternoon.
